Dr. Shravan Kumar Ghimire
Associate Expert · GIS, Remote Sensing & Watershed Planning
Dr. Shravan Kumar Ghimire is a human geographer and spatial analyst. His doctoral research at the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences, examined how terrain constrains economic development at the small-watershed scale in Nepal, and produced the Watershed Morphometric Composite Index (WMCI) for prioritising mountain sub-watersheds for soil conservation (Ecological Indicators, 2025).
Before doctoral study he spent more than five years in environmental consulting in Kathmandu, preparing over 30 EIA and IEE reports for roads, bridges, hydropower and transmission projects, including the Bhaluswara–Barpak road EIA, the Malekhu 132 kV forest clearance and the Tanahu Hydropower site-specific EMP. His conservation work includes red panda habitat modelling in Langtang National Park and human–wildlife conflict analysis in the Banke complex for WWF Nepal.
He works in machine learning, spatial analysis, GIS, remote sensing, Google Earth Engine, SWAT hydrological modelling, Python and R. He received the Nepal Vidhyabusan Award from the President of Nepal in 2017 for first position with distinction across Pokhara University, the ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents (2020) and an NTNC dissertation research grant (2016). He worked with the firm’s Team Leader on the ADB/NAST treeline study and co-authored research with him published in 2017.
